  1. El Capitan is delicious!

No ther mexican food restaurant in Flagstaff offers a menu like this. They have several one-of-a-kind items like shrimp enchiladas with chipotle cream sauce, scallop taces and award-winning (seriously!) coconut battered shrimp with mango salsa. All delicious, but I am such a fan of their traditional menu items like cheese enchiladas and tacos. Another unique aspect is that they offer refried pinto OR black beans. It's nice to have a choice. The salsa bar is THE best in town. It is always fresh, with a great selection. My favorite is the smoked jalepeno salsa. Sometimes, we will just stop in for an ice cold Tecate and chips and salsa. You can't go wrong! The staff is really friendly, and the owner is always visible. You can find him cooking in the kitchen, seating people and he is always doing service and quality checks with customers. I highly recommend this, it is the best mexican food in town.

  2. NiMarco's is the BEST pizza in Flagstaff!

There are so many things that set NiMarco's pizza apart from the other pizza locations in Flagstaff. The first being the outdoor patio. This has to be THE best outdoor patio in Flagstaff, overlooking one of our main downtown streets. It is the perfect place to go hang out when the weather is nice and have a quick slice of really good pizza. Inside is a very clean (so important!) and informal atmosphere with four TV's and WiFi capability. It's a great place for my family to go. Especially when wanting to eat good food, have friendly service, and get some work/studying done (all at once!)
The food is AWESOME! There's always a wide selection of fresh slices to choose from, and you can order a great pizza that will TRUELY feed your family for a very reasonable price. The pizza is hearty with lots of cheese and no cutting corners on the toppings.
We really appreciate this, as we are always hosting company or our kids sports teams, and we know that NiMarco's will be consistently good and everyone will have a positive experience.
I have been in Flagstaff for over 17 years and eaten at every pizza place several times over. I can honestly say that this is the BEST pizza in town. They have been around for over 30 years. Obviously, they know pizza! On any given weekend night, you may run into a little wait, but that's because the pizza here is definately worth it, and others know this as well!

  3. Best Pizza in Flagstaff

NiMarco's Pizza serves fresh hot slices in a variety of toppings. If you pull up to the store and see a line out the door, don't be intimidated....the line moves fast. And to me that's always a good indicator that the food inside is gonna be good.

If you like like medium to thick crust style pizza with a generous amount of cheese and toppings, cheap prizes, and a cozy atmosphere, then this is the place for you. The wings here can't be beat either- some of the best in town. They also serve, calzones, wings, salads, beer & wine.

If you have a large party, they can accomodate you in their dining room or on their outdoor patio. The staff is always friendly! It's a great local's favorite and definately mine too!

  4. Only Minutes Away - Step Back 1000 Years in Time

You drive only 7.5 miles east of bustling downtown Flagstaff to Exit 204 and adventure south three miles to the quiet Walnut Canyon rim. There you find what some local anthropologists call the best little museum on the ancestral Puebloan culture. The small amount of time that you'll invest in the museum and the video will give you a complete overview of the prehistoric account of the people of the area. I recommend that you start your visit to the Flagstaff area National Parks and Monuments here.

The park is open until 5pm and so convenient to Flagstaff that you could do a quick retreat before checking into your Flagstaff motel room. The Visitor Center is perched on the edge of Walnut Canyon and offers views into the wilderness below. The Island Trail down may still be blocked by a recent boulder slide, but no worries, the monument is still worth a visit. Your entry fee - if you buy the Local Passport for $25 which admits the pass holder and three adults (children are free) - will be good for future trips to Wapatki and Sunset Crater National Monuments. (Does not include the Grand Canyon National Park.)

I buy the America the Beautiful pass which admits the pass holder and three adults (children are free) at per person fee areas - which includes the Grand Canyon National Park - for one year for only $80. Seniors $10 for a lifetime pass.

Day passes into Walnut Canyon National Monument are $5 per person (children free).

  5. Farmer's Market Plus

If you happen to be in Flagstaff any Sunday morning thru mid-October, take the time to explore the farmer’s market. My family and I went this weekend for the first time and were delighted with all of the vendors. There was all kinds of locally grown produce form tomatoes to onions, herbs, and more. My two year old really liked the honey sticks that Cowboy Honey sells for a quarter.

  6. Great Family Hiking Spot in Flag

If you are here just for a short visit and need to burn off a little of the energy you gathered on your road trip, bring the family to Buffalo Park. It has easy trails and feels like a hike in the mountains but is only about 5 minutes drive from downtown. Also good for a jog.

  7. Not my kind of Mexican

I've eaten at El Capitan once and that will be it. I loved the way their menu looked and their salsa bar idea. But it just wasn't good tasting.
If Flag, I'd go downtown to San Felipe or to El Charro (esp for lunch specials) instead if you're in the mood for Mexican.

  8. Good sauce, average everything else

NiMarco’s Pizza says on their sign that they’ve been serving “Flagstaff style” pizza since 1979. If that’s the case, Flagstaff style is average pizza with a cracker-thin dry crust but really good sauce.

I was very excited to try NiMarco’s for the first time this week. I’ve driven by their place countless times and always thought that their patio looked like fun. It’s a simple house-style restaurant with about a half dozen tables outside. The inside has a relaxed look with a fireplace dominating the single roomed restaurant and wooden booths around the outside of the room and tables in the middle. Nothing fancy, just easy to kick back in. That’s a good description of the menu as well. NiMarco’s serves slices, whole pizzas, calzone, a few types of salad, and wings.

  9. Big Foot Bests: Fried Chicken Salad + Sides!

The first time we ate at Big Foot Bar-B-Q was when we moved to Flagstaff from Dallas, Texas two years ago. Coming from the state with arguably the best barbeque in the world, my first impressions of Big Foot were not good. I don’t know if my tastes or standards for barbeque have changed or I just started ordering better entrees, but I really like grabbing lunch there now.

  10. I'd get the Bluebery Scone!

House of Bread seems like a little local joint but in reality it is a franchise of small regional chain based in California. The bread and butter of their business, if you will, are their 25 types of homemade premium breads, made with freshly stone ground flour. They do it right in the store everyday. (But don’t show up with the kids to watch because all the fun goes on in the wee hours of the morning, I asked about it.) Their website states that all of their products are all natural with no chemicals or artificial preservatives. You can taste the quality of the ingredients in every product they serve.
