EXPENSIVE, CROWDED & DIRTY
15 of us went there last night for a birthday party. We got there before 8pm but still had to pay and $8 cover. The seating was awful - 2 high tops in the very back with a ceiling support beam blocking more than half the stage. The piano players were good but kept begging for tips - annoying!! The bathrooms were inadequate and very dirty - girls, plan on waiting in a loooong line. The drink prices were Scottsdale expensive. The male piano players went on break about an hour in and a girl took their place - Billy Joel is not supposed to be sang in Alto!
I recommend - go to a local bar with free parking, no cover, cheap beer and listen to Karaoke!!- 0 people found this review helpful

Almost too good to share
This is one of those places that I hesitate to mention online as it is so fabulous it is only a matter of time until the crowd come and I can no longer get a table. However, I would doing this local business a great disservice by not touting its praises. From the sandwiches to the macaroons and sweet atmosphere this is a great place to remind you of the simple pleasures in life. Whether celebrating or trying to get over a rough day Essence has the perfect treat for you. I recommend taking your girlfriends or mom for an outing here they will feel so special, not to mention full.

Beer Buffet
When it comes to a great selection of draft beers it does not get better than Boulders on Broadway. Not only do they change their offerings and keep a great variety on tap, but they also offer great specials on food and Tuesday night trivia making it the perfect bar experience. Additionally, the servers are great fun and may even pull up a chair and chat with you, only if invited of course. If you have a problem making decisions, like me, ask for help the servers will suggest the perfect brew for you.

Designer goods that won't break the bank
When it comes to outlet shopping there is nothing better than Arizona Mills in Tempe. Not only is the mall enormous but it is full of the stores that you actually want to shop. My personal favorite is the Neiman Marcus outlet, which has racks and racks of discounted jeans, shoes and purses. Not to mention the fabulous cocktail dresses, which are so cheap that warrant the purchase even if you do not have a specific function coming up. This mall makes it easy to spoil yourself because you will leave with full shopping bags and money left in your wallet. Feel free to make a day of it and eat at one of the many restaurants on site and catch a movie before you leave.

A wonderful wat to cool off during the hot summer days!
My family and I had a blast last week when we went to visit. We went there on a tuesday, which just happened to be free tube tuesday so all the tubes were free. They had a perfect little kids area for my 5 year old and awesome bigger slides for my 9 year old. We spent 6 hours there and left only because we had to. Their wave pool is the best i have ever been. I think this is the place to be if you want to cool off this summer.

The Tavern
The Tavern is one of those restaurants/ bars that instantly transports you to hang-out Nirvana. A light-hearted and friendly atmosphere makes it easy to forget that hard day at work and unwind into the breezy life of the bar. There is always good music being played, but it's never too loud to stop good coversation. The Tavern also offers great patio seating that lends itself to people-watching off of Mill Avenue. The scene is mostly college-aged, but even the young at heart can enjoy The Tavern as a social hub.

Baseline Sports Bar
Baseline Sports Bar is the place to go if you're looking for a great place to watch your favorite team. Baseline has big flat-panel screens placed at the back of the bar and other televisions placed around towards the front and sides so no matter where you are, you'll be able to cheer on your team. Another great feature about Baseline is its outdoor patio. So, if you end up staying until later in the evening or until that fourth overtime plays out, you'll be able to enjoy your favorite beer under the shade and misters of the patio. Baseline also offers great bar food like mile-high nachos, garlic fries, hot wings and quesadillas. The bartenders at Baseline offer that friendly neighborhood je ne sais quoi that makes you feel as if they are your old college pals sharing the game with you. The bar also offers a wide variety of tap beers as well as imports, so whatever mood you're in, they'll be able to match it. Overall, Baseline is a great place to go with either a big group of sports enthusiasts or a small collection of best friends.

Efes Turkish Cuisine
This unique and inviting restaurant located in the heart of Tempe is place to go if you are looking for good food, an authentic atmosphere and timely service. At Efes, the entrees are large enough to split, but you won't want to after taking one bite. The kebabs and imam bayildi, an eggplant dip, are their signiture plates--and for good reason. In addition to the traditional Turkish fare, the owners take note to be a part of your dining experience by performing Turkish music live in the main dining room of the restaurant. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights, professional belly-dancers take the floor; making for a unique and entertaining evening. In all, Efes is one restaurant worth going to if you are in the mood to step out of the box and have a truely rewarding Turkish dining experience

Great Free Museum
Arizona State University has a collection of free museums on campus, but the ASU Art Museum is the largest and the easiest to find. It is intended to be an interactive museum, which means they have a rotation of artists in residence throughout the year and they try to house exhibitions that are thought provoking and involving. You never know what you're going to see there (or how you'll react to it) and that's the beauty of the museum. Parking can be tricky on campus, but there are metered spaces just outside the museum and you can park north of the museum in front of the Ceramics Research Center (also a part of the art museum). Just be sure to register your license plate at the front desk.
