Best Chicken Wings in Town
Even if you are not a fan of Fred Flinstone's style of eating, directly off the bone. You should try the chicken wings at Fire on the Mountain, they will likely convert you.
These messy, deliciously spicy wings are best enjoyed with a pitcher of beer, or lemonade, but regardless of your beverage choice you will likely need a large.
I find this establishment to be a great date place, the couple that eats wings together stays together, but even if you prefer a more romantic date night it is still a great take out option for the next big game or backyard party.
If you have the time, I suggest you grab one of the outdoor picnic tables and plan on lingering for a while as the extra hots and el heffes require multiple breaks to wipe the tears.
While you are there make sure to sign up for the mailing list because it is the only way to find out about $0.25 wing nights.

Delicious cupcakes from grumpy bakers
Until Sprinkles cupcakes decides to grace our fair city with their presence Saint Cupcakes provides a delicious red velvet substitute.
While the NW location looks every bit the part of a fabulous bakery straight from Candyland its employees are quite frankly the grumpiest sugar providers I have ever encountered. In fact I very much wanted to hate and judge these treats unfavorably based upon the service I received, however I was unable to do so, they are undeniably delicious.
These bits of frosted happiness are worth any sort of attitude you may encounter. My advice is to make sure you order ahead- the red velvet cupcakes sell out quickly, and take your orders to go.

Great Aveda Salon Deals
The Aveda Institute opened in Portland in January on the corner of NW13th and Flanders. In addition to its great location you cannot beat the prices at this place. A haircut is only $13 and since it is a school they do not accept tips.
This is not your usual beauty school, not only do they deliever to the quality that one would expect given the Aveda name, but there are multiple instructors ready to help if needed and required to consult on every client.
If you do go there for a haircut. Let me reccommend Michelle, she gave me a great Reese Witherspoon style haircut that I absolutely adore. Additionally, she is a member of the first class to go through the school, so she is one of the more experienced students, which is evident given her attention to detail and skill with fine hair. If you cannot get in to see Michelle then ask to be placed with a senior or ask for the student with the seat closest to the windows near the street. Students stations are arranged by experience (year level) so the closer you are to the street the longer your student has been at the school.
Since it is a school, I experienced a long wait and even missed my eye brow wax appointment because my haircut went so far over, but given the money and quality it is a sacrifice I am happy to make. Plus it gives me an excuse to add a pedicure to my rescheduled appointment.
Perhaps best of all they accept and will cater to same day appointments.
