Most romantic resort in Scottsdale
I'm local, but have stayed in a lot of the luxury resorts in Scottsdale. Four Seasons is by far my favorite, especially for a romantic getaway. The rooms are large and comfortable, and they are luxurious without seeming pretentious. Staff is as good as you would expect. And, the surroundings by Pinnacle Peak Park are amazing, plus the views of the city really make you appreciate living in Arizona.

wouldn't stay anywhere else
I have come to the conclusion that there isn't a place on the planet that can please everyone. that being said for the last three summers in a row our family (wife, 16 year old son, and I) have made the trek from Southern Cal to the Four Seasons Scottsdale. And having just returned, we are already planning on being back there again.........in the heat of June/July.
In light of the occasional negative review for this property, I have to stand up and pledge my allegiance.....(okay, that's a bit over the top)......but honestly over the last three years we have stayed a total of 35 days here and have not had a SINGLE issue. On the other hand everything has been extraordinary. Not because my standards are low, or that I'm easily pleased, this is just an amazing facility, owned by an amazing company, and staffed by amazing people. (I will now push my soap box aside, deposit my Four Seasons commission check and proceed with a review that will try to give you a broad overview of what to expect.)
Check In: The valet will get your name and escort you to the front desk to introduce you. This will probably be the last time you have to give your name to anyone. As I said, we have been there three years running and have arrived every year around 11:00 and have been able to check in immediately. (Regular check in is 4:00 like most). We asked about an upgrade and received it no questions, and could have upgraded to a plunge pool suite for an additional fee that was significantly reduced, but decided to stay with the Superior Casita. Check in is quick, everyone is honestly friendly and there is fruit and Prickly Pear Tea at the desk. You are then introduced to the bellman who already has your bags on the electric cart and you are driven to your room.
Insider Tip: Based on occupancy they are very generous with upgrades.
Rooms: They are not gigantic, but they are very roomy and very well done. They average about 500 sq ft. The Superior casitas have a king bed (with top of the line mattress and linens) and a sofa bed with duvet for our 16 year old. There are 3 phones in the room (one in the bathroom), high speed internet, DVD/VHS player, CD player (with a "sleep" cd for your use), TV (that could use updating), fridge, full mini-bar, coffee-maker (with all supplies restocked twice daily), toaster, safe, very plush towels, robes/slippers, covered porch or balcony, soaking tub/separate shower, and L'Occitane amenities that are incredible. One of the most subtle, but most relaxing features of the rooms is that because of the arrangement of the rooms and the quality of the construction, you do not hear anything outside of your room. (No hallway noise, no plumbing sounds from another room, nothing from above or below you........nothing). The rooms are just peaceful in every way possible. They have a turn-down service, so if you wish your room is refreshed twice daily. If you don't and you wish to hibernate, they will totally respect the Do Not Disturb sign. Insider Tips: The first floor rooms have completely covered porches. Room service is a must.
Pool: Three pools at the resort and one at the residences. There is a main. lagoon type, family pool that has a waterfall that spills over into the adult only pool. Adjacent is the toddler pool. All three pools have cabanas, lattice covers, and lots of umbrellas. The chaises are cushioned teak, not the plastic strap variety. When you show up they will walk you to your location of choice, lay out the terry cloth chair cover, roll up a towel for your head, get you pitcher of iced water with lemon & cups, a drink/food menu and anything else you desire (You want one of those great chocolate chip cookies that are at the concierge? Let them know and they will go get you one.) Again, we have had over 40 visits to the pool in 3 years and have yet to be left on our own for more than a few minutes when we arrived. The pool staff, especially Jason are the best. On a regular basis they will make their rounds, checking on your needs, and bringing by frozen grapes, fruit skewers, smoothies, iced/minted face towels, etc. and checking to see if they can clean your sunglasses. They just know how to pamper. There is never "too much" noise at the pools, and it is just a very relaxing place. One of the nice perks here is that none of the cabanas need to be reserved and there is no charge (unlike most other resorts, especially in Scottsdale) Insider Tip: The cabanas with the misters at the adult pool are the best.
Spa/Fitness Room- Both beautiful, professional, convenient, and very well done.
Restaurants: Acacia, the high end facility is typically high priced but is excellent. The evidence of this is the consistent local crowd that shows up to dine here, especially on the weekends.
Crescent Moon- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mid-range, still on the high side but very high quality.
Saguaro Blossom- Poolside, casual but a good menu and the best burger and steak fries anywhere. (My son had 6 of these while we were here, and had the same dream-state look on his face every time). Insider Tip: Try the patio at the lounge bar, small menu with smaller servings, but most are just the right size, just the right price and what a view!
Activities: Two super-cushion tennis courts. Again no extra charges for court or racquet rental and they send you out with a thremal tote with bottled water and chilled towels. There is also a ball machine on the courts for your use and the courts are lit.
Salsa/Margarita tasting and demonstration is a must attend. They provide you with a basket of chips and they make a fresh batch of their salsa and give you the recipe. Then the bartender (hope beyond hope that you get Sean, and he will make your entire trip) shows you how they make two of their signature Margaritas (free-poured with Patron Silver) and the samples are basically a full size drink. Star Gazing- A local astronomer sets up on the lawn on Friday nights and the resort provides cookies and tea and he shows you the Arizona night sky (on this trip we were able to see Jupiter, Venus, Saturn/and it's rings and an amazing view of the moon)
Meet the Pastry Chef- A trip behind the scenes with Anthony the head pastry chef (and more complimentary samples). This is a lot of fun. Insider Tip: Make it a point to attend these events. they are fun have a lot of local flavor and they make the trip special.
Staff: Everyone is the best. If you run into anything less..........I'm sorry I've never seen it, not even close. The front desk is quick, responsive and friendly. The concierge desk knows their stuff and will help you in ways that are way beyond expected. The pool staff is at the top of my list in every way. The room service staff, valets, bus men, even the grounds keepers are impeccable.
I guess it's obvious that I can't say enough. One last point, there are several posts that have talked about this resort being "too far out". Here's the skinny, it is 1000' higher in elevation so it is cooler and the view is the best around. and yes you are outside of town, which only means.............you are OUTSIDE of town. If you are coming to Scottsdale to relax, this is the place. If you wan't to be in the middle of traffic, noise, and crowds............there are those other places. It is only a 5 minute drive to many restaurants, shopping etc. It is only a 15-20 minute drive to Kierland Commons and most other major centers. 30+ minutes will get you to downtown Scottsdale, and 45 to Phoenix.
A few local tips: AJ's market is around the corner (on the corner of Pima & Pinnacle) and is a great place to stock up that fridge.
Pinnacle Peak & Reatta Pass are both right outside the entrance and both have great family type food. F1 Racing in Phoenix is an indoor go-kart track that is a blast. Firrelli's Cinema Supper Club on Scottsdale Rd. serves a great meal while you watch a first run movie.
Again, no place can please everybody, but if you don't have one of the best stays of your life at the Four Seasons Scottsdale.................well.........no, I'm going to be nice and not say it.
