  1. Strombolli's Restaurant & Pizzeria: I recommend the calzones here

Strombolli’s is the first restaurant I ever ate at in Flagstaff. That was about two and a half years ago and we’ve been back dozens of times since. While it’s good enough to keep me coming back, I rarely leave 100% satisfied. Read more of my review at outwestfoodreview.com.

  2. Fry's: Cheapest Gas In Flagstaff

the cheapest gas in flag is located on rte 66 at the fry's grocery store gas station east of downtown. (no i don't own it or anything. just gas up there.) if you don't want to go all the way over there and are just on the highway, drive up a few blocks on milton passed the target and wells fargo. there is a conoco and varsity gas that are your best bet for a "decent" price, relatively speaking of course.

  3. New Jersey Pizza Co.: This really is THE best pizza (local products & organic food too!)

I just discovered New Jersey Pizza company this week. I'd heard it was out of business but that's NOT true... so VERY GLAD! I have to say, I love Fratelli's... but now that I've eaten at NJ, Fratelli's is number two on my Flag favorites list for pizza. Fratelli's has better service BY FAR. But NJ uses locally grown vegetables, organic ingredients, AND makes their own mozzerella cheese. That really impressed me. Plus it's really really good tasting. Lots of sauce and cheese. Crispy thin crust. (Note: NOT New York style with huge pieces and soft thin crust.) There's no a/c... so not your best stop on a hot day. otherwise... definitely worth a try! 4. Flagstaff: Kids Music Festival

Went to the first annual kids music festival today. had a great time! they had lots of fun FREE stuff for kids to do! (Flag is ALWAYS good about having lots of free things at their activities!!!) We'll definitely be going to the the next one. Though I do wish there was kids music playing. There was a lot of people talking about their classes instead. Otherwise - fantastic. Even came home with some cool FREE bags to use for grocery store (and other) shopping! NICE bonus! One of the reasons Flag is such a great place to live or visit with families! Thanks Parks & Rec! ps-LOVED the train folks this time! also FREE! Much better than the guy who charged kids $8 for a 3 minute ride with no sign at the kite festival. Thanks for fixing that (it was the only thing not fantastic about the kite festival too!)

  5. Scott's Chicago Pizza: Decent Chicago style deep dish for non-Chicagoans

Can good food be found inside a gas station? Most definitely. I’ve eaten at several good eateries in my day located in the most unlikely of places. But I was still a little leery of ordering Chicago-style pizza from Scott’s Chicago Pizza. First, it is in a gas station. And of all the foods I’ve had and enjoyed at gas station restaurants, pizza had never been one of them. Second, this is Chicago-style pizza we’re talking about. Having lived in Chi-town I know my way around some of the best pizza joints in the world. So my expectations are always low to find a decent Windy City pie outside the Windy City. Still, I’d gotten a recommendation to try it, so I loaded the family in the car at set forth for the far west side of town hoping for the best. read the rest of my review at: outwestfoodreview.com

  6. Grand Canyon Railway: Upgrade on the train to the Grand Canyon

An alternative, relaxing, albeit longer, trip to the Grand Canyon is via train from Williams, Arizona… on the Grand Canyon Railway. My family (a two year old, a 10 month old, a nine month old, four adults, and two grandparents) just went on our second trip on this train this week. The Grand Canyon Railway is an easy and relaxing way to cross Northern Arizona’s high desert without worrying about traffic or waiting in long lines to enter the park. It’s a little long for the kiddos... read the rest of this review/tip at OutWestRoadTrip.info

  7. Bright Angel Restaurant: Good food on the Rim

Most people go to the Grand Canyon to enjoy the view or hike the trails. But here’s another reason to make the trek: the Bright Angel Restaurant. It is part of the Bright Angel Lodge at the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. When walking along the rim trail enjoying the popular overlooks, you’ll find the entrance to this delicious restaurant tucked behind the ice cream shop and souvenir store at the Bright Angel Lodge. The décor is distinctively southwestern and rustic with wooden beam ceilings and large windows along the side of the restaurant that borders the canyon. The food reflects these qualities. 8. Flagstaff Community Market: Farmer's Market Plus

If you happen to be in Flagstaff any Sunday morning thru mid-October, take the time to explore the farmer’s market. My family and I went this weekend for the first time and were delighted with all of the vendors. There was all kinds of locally grown produce form tomatoes to onions, herbs, and more. My two year old really liked the honey sticks that Cowboy Honey sells for a quarter. For more of my review, go to OutWestRoadTrip.info

  9. Buffalo Park: Great Family Hiking Spot in Flag

If you are here just for a short visit and need to burn off a little of the energy you gathered on your road trip, bring the family to Buffalo Park. It has easy trails and feels like a hike in the mountains but is only about 5 minutes drive from downtown. Also good for a jog. 10. El Capitan Fresh Mexican Grill: Not my kind of Mexican

I've eaten at El Capitan once and that will be it. I loved the way their menu looked and their salsa bar idea. But it just wasn't good tasting. If Flag, I'd go downtown to San Felipe or to El Charro (esp for lunch specials) instead if you're in the mood for Mexican.
