  1. Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady): Munich's icon

Build from 1468 to 1488 the Frauenkirche today still dominates the Munich skyline (and will continue to do so as a law prohibits building anything in downtown that are higher than the cathedral). With room for more than 20,000 people inside this is one of the largest churches in Germany. When you visit make sure to have a look at the Devil's Footstep. Legend has it that the devil stomped his foot leaving a footprint in the ground when he realized that from the spot he stood at none of the windows could be seen. The south tower can be ascended and offers a panoramic view of Munich and the Alps. Especailly worth it when you have a clear day!

  2. The Proud Bird: Old birds, great view

Looking for a reasonable lunch location close to LAX? Look no further than the Proud Bird. Right in the approach path to LAX this restaurants seems to be from a different time (is it because of the vintage WWII aircraft in the backyard or because the interior still seems to be the original 60s decor?). In any case the food is decent and with lunch specials for less than $10 you can not complain. A great place to come with kids who can watch one plane after the other fly by right in front of the window.

  3. In-N-Out Burger: Good bad burgers

Burgers are bad for you and In-N-Out burger does not offer any healthy options. The menu has exactly 5 items: 3 types of burgers (that only vary in the amount of cheese and meat), fries and milkshakes (they also offer softdrinks but we do not want to count that as a real menu item). But although the burgers are bad for your health and you do not have many options to choose from, the food tastes excellent. In-N-Out burger does not use any frozen ingredients, everything is prepared fresh. Your social concience will also like coming here: In-N-Out burger pays above minium wage and highschool students who work here get a bonus for good grades at school.

  4. Rosenberger Markt Restaurant: Buffet in the basement

It is definitely not fine dining but you have to keep in mind that Rosenberger usually operates highway rest stops. In Vienna they offer hungry guests a buffet style restaurant with a huge selection in a very central location. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat this is a good choice.

  5. Serratto: Dine with great wine

If you are a wine fan then this is the place for you. Serratto's offers an extensive wine list and an extremly knowlegable staff that will help you make the right selection. The place is very popular, make a reservation or prepare to wait.

  6. Sofitel Vienna: Great location

Smaller Sofitel hotel in a great location in downtown Vienna, in walking distance to many of the top tourist attractions like St. Stephan's Cathedral etc. If you want a non-smoking room make sure to book one when you make your reservation.

  7. Suede: Suede

In this part of Scottsdale you will find a whole cluster of nightclubs and bars. Suede was late to the party, opening after Axis/Radius and other clubs in the area. But this gave them time to create something different and the owners did a good job. Suede is a restaurant / lounge with a a nice patio and chic design. A hang-out for Scottsdale's beautiful people on the weekends.

  8. Merc Bar: Merc Bar

By far not as "in" and famous as its sister location (Merc Bar Soho) in New York City but for Phoenix this is a pretty decent lounge (although a little bit dark).

  9. Mama D's: Mama D's

Mama D's does not look like much from the outside, but wait till you are inside and experience the service. A true family-operated restaurant with anyone of the staff being responsible for making sure guests are happy. Waiters will ask for your name and remember it throughout your meal. Best of all, they are genuinely friendly - if you work in a customer service job, this should be your benchmark. The food tastes great but don't expect fine dining and exotic presentation. Here you eat on tables with green-white checkered table cloth and the bread comes in a a plastic basket. The speciality of Mama D's are all dishes with the pink sauce, a combination of Alfredo and Marinara sauces. Skip the free cookies that are offered for desert and have an ice cream at Manhattan Beach Creamy accross the street to round of the experience.

  10. Cafe Mozart: Cafe Mozart

The entrance to this restaurant is very awkward as you have to walk through a grocery store that carries only original German groceries. But once you have found your way authentic German food awaits you . The Schnitzels are some of the best you will find this side of the Atlantic and on almost all nights guests are entertained by German live music which creates a certain um-pa-pa feeling.
